Last year, October 31, 2017 marked the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. To commemorate the 500th anniversary, Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church sponsored an original production of Dr. Martin Luther, A Beggar Before God, the Musical as a dinner theater at the German-American Society over the last couple of weekends in October (2017).
The play was well received, the food was great, and the audiences were wonderful. By the second weekend the word had spread and our last couple of performances were sold out. Unfortunately, that meant we had to turn some people way. Since that time we have been encouraged to bring the play back for a second round of performances. So we are.
This year Martin Luther, A Beggar Before God, the Musical will be held as a theatrical performance at the Apollo Theater in downtown Peoria, but not a dinner. Performances will be held October 25-28. In addition to the change in venue, we are making improvements to he script and we are adding some original songs.
Over the next few months, we will be sending out announcements, flyers, and inserts regarding the play. We would appreciate it if you would pass this information on to the members of your congregation. Below is our first announcement.
Back by popular demand, Martin Luther, A Beggar Before God, the Musical. Auditions will be held in August and the performance dates are October 25-29 at the Apollo Theater in downtown Peoria. If you’d like to be kept up-to-date on auditions and all things, Martin Luther, A Beggar Before God please email us at Lutherplaysinpeoria@gmail.com or visit ImmanuelEP.org or Immanuel Lutheran E.
